Short bio
The Swedish artist Cajsa Stina is the daughter of the singer /songwriter Fred Åkerström. She was born 16 of August 1967 at Bohusgatan in Söder in Stockholm. She grew up in a world of music. Her father Fred filled the house with his colleges like Cornelis Vreesvijk and Tom Paxton. And if not at home Fred Åkerström visited the restaurant Gyldene Freden and brought little Cajsa Stina with him. When Cajsa Stina was six her parents divorced and she moved with her mother to the province of Småland in southern Sweden. At school holidays she visited her father and travelled around with him on his tour across Sweden in his Volvo called Bojan.
Cajsa Stina started to sing during those years, and appeared together with her father on concerts. But when Fred died in 1985 Cajsa Stina gave up singing and decided to become an archaeologist. After her education she got a job at the museum of Kalmar. Kalmar is a city on the east coast of Småland. One of her greatest find was a tomb from the eight century belonging to a 20 year old woman covered in jewellery.
In 1991 she was discovered by the radio reporter Sven Ekborg, while working on a dig, and she decided to take up her singing career again. She first appeared like an early messenger of spring in late winter '94 with the single Fråga stjärnorna (Ask the stars). The song was about a girl who by accident got to know her future through astrology. After the first single she released her self titled album which contained the single Änglarna håller hov ikväll (Roughly translated as: Night at the Angel's Court).
Later that year she boarded Rocktåget (The rock 'n' roll train) together with Orup, Magnus Uggla och Just D. Rocktåget used to be a yearly happening when three or four stars/groups (mostly the "stars of the year") jumped on a train and rode across Sweden on a summer tour. The last three years those tours has failed to be the hits they one were, but in the time of Cajsa-Stina Rocktåget was one of biggest musical summer events in Sweden. Pictures from the Rocktåget of '94 was taken by Mikael Albrecht. They are really good, and you find them here!
After '94 Cajsa Stina took a break and hid away on her countryside house in Halltorp outside Kalmar at the east-coast of Småland. There she cut of her curly hear. And two years later, in springtime '96 Cajsa Stina returned with the album Klädd för att gå (Dressed to go) which included the smashing hit Socker, knäckebröd och choklad, (Sugar, Crackers and Chocolate - well Knäckebröd is not exactly crackers, it's more like bread). The song was about girl meets boy in the grocery store on an ordinary, cloudy weekday. The next single from the album was about the lonely girl at the movie-theatre: Långt härifrån (Far away from here).
Cajsa Stina's next album was called Cirklar - Circles, and it started where "Socker... " ended. One can easily recognise the typical Cajsa-Stina-sound on the album. But next album, she promised, would be different.
In the year 2000 we didn't get to see that much of Cajsa-Stina, but in the autumn she appeared on an album by the Norwegian singer Finn Kalvik. Cajsa-Stina sang together with Finn Kalvik on the single Trostevise which originally was written as an instrumental in 1989 by the former ABBA member Benny Andersson for his album November 1989. Trostevise appeard on Kalviks album Imellom to evigheter
And in 2001 she released a collection album called En bit på väg (which woughly could be translated into "I've done a part of my trip")
Then she jouned forces with Åsa Jinder. Their sång Av längtan till dig (By longing for you) becane number one at the radio list Svensktoppen (Swedish top) in the summer of 2001. Cajsa Stina celebrated that with strawberrys and an evening swim in the sea. And their cooperation continues. They have been performing in Stockholm this summer and are planning an album together. Åsa will write the lyrics and make the music and Cajsa Stina will sing.
But before that Cajsa Stina's next album has appeared. It's called Picknick and naturally Cajsa Stina is hoping for hits in the class with Fråga Stjärnorna and Långt härifrån. And in October she is launching her tour, the very first on her own.
She is engaged with Adam, who lives in the town of Uppsala in central Sweden. Adam is the son of the American jazz-musician Art Farmer. Cajsa-Stina and Adam became engaged on New Years Eve 1997, and the song Två (Two) is about how they met. Now Cajsa-Stina is considering starting a family. She may adopt a child.
Cajsa-Stina lives next door to her mother, which may come in handy when she gets children. A grandmother is always great to have near! She also got two dogs: Resmus and Rasmus.
She has also been busy writing songs for other artists. Among those is Salt for Lill Lindfors. And now she'll become a writer too. She is busy wrinting a book about the strong women of her ancestry and a thriller.
